14 June 2022 ~ Masonry Symposium: Advancing Masonry Technology, Seattle, USA

The symposium will take place on June 14 2022, at the Hyatt Regency, Seattle, USA. Its objective is to gather and disseminate the latest information on all aspects of innovation in masonry materials, design, specification, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation. It will emphasise the application of ASTM standards to those areas, and their co-ordination with building codes, project specifications and international standards.

The Symposium is co-sponsored by ASTM Committees C01 on Cement, C07 on Lime, C12 on Mortars and Grouts for Unit Masonry (Lead Committee), and C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units.

16 February 2021 ~ Part L & F of the Building Regulations 2021 & The Overheating Consultation

As you will be aware the Government has now responded to the Future Homes Standard / Part L consultation, confirming the standards and compliance metrics to be adopted as part of the changes to Approved Document L1A. These changes will be regulated for in December 2021, to come into effect in June 2022. Additional consultation documents have been released as the ‘Future Buildings Standard Consultation’ which will provide some further detail in key areas and also address issues relating to overheating, Part F and the required standards for existing dwellings.

7-9 July 2014 ~ 9th International Masonry Conference – Guimarães, Portugal

9IMC will be held in Guimarães, Portugal in July 7-9, 2014 as a joint initiative from the University of Minho and the International Masonry Society. The first announcement is attached and more information will be available at www.9imc.civil.uminho.pt from end June 2012.

This Conference series has become one of the most important international events in the masonry world and it takes place every four years. The technical program will include plenary sessions with invited speakers and parallel sessions of selected papers arranged according to the most relevant topics in masonry. The organizers will plan an enjoyable social program, taking advantage of Guimarães (a Unesco World Heritage site), and the neighborhood city of Porto and the Douro Valley.

27th June 2013 ~ Natural Cements for Repair and Renovation of Heritage Structures

New cement plants have been set up in Europe to manufacture natural (or so-called “Roman”) cement. Natural or Roman cements, were key materials for the economic and easy manufacture of renders and cast architectural details for the exteriors of buildings during the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The meeting will be of interest to architects, consultants, materials suppliers, engineers and anyone with an interest in the preservation of historic structures.
