Abstract
Results of comparative investigations of reinforced and unreinforced clay brick masonry non dilatational strains are presented in this paper. Wallets 130 cm x 142 cm were subjected was simultaneously to shearing perpendicular to bed joints and vertical compression. Reinforcement was placed in every 3rd and 6th bed joint to obtain 0,05% and 0,10% reinforcement ratio relating to wallette vertical cross section area. On the basis of non-dilatational strains and shearing forces measured during tests non-dilatational strain angles and shear modulus were calculated. Failure cracking was observed, as well. FEM analysis of vertically sheared masonry was also carried out. Investigations revealed that non-dilatational strain angles and shear modulus depend on the level of compressive stresses accompanying shearing. Relating to unreinforced masonry, bed joint reinforcement decrease non-dilatational strain angles and increase shear modulus.
