Abstract
The structural behaviour of masonry is inadequately described in many codes and design methods. In these methods the calculated bearing capacity does not conform with the experiments. This paper presents recent research results on the structural behaviour of masonry with ashlar sandstone. The work is divided into theoretical, numerical and experimental analyses. These support each other in justifying the assumptions which are needed to formulate the derived equation of masonry bearing capacity.
