Abstract. The paper presents interim results of a research project on the fastening of burglar resistant windows in thermal insulating clay unit masonry carried out at ift Rosenheim in cooperation with Arbeitsgemeinschaft Mauerziegel, PaX AG and Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG. The resistance classes RC 2 and RC 3 were easily verified in all tests, although the surrounding masonry did not comply with the current restrictions of the German national Annex to EN 1627. The tests carried out comprised an attack on the window, the fastenings and the masonry itself. Walls only covered with a lightweight plaster CS II according to EN 998-1 could be classified RC2. Resistance class RC3 was reached with an additional glas fiber reinforcement that is usually applied for durability reasons (weathering) on monolithic masonry in Germany. A proposal for a modification of the classification table in EN 1627/NA was prepared on the basis of the tests. This proposal will be discussed in the German mirror committee in Spring 2018. The project is funded by the research initiative “Zukunft Bau” of the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (Reference No. SWD-10.08.18.7-16.14).
