Abstract
The results of tests on 18 simply supported post-tensioned prestressed brickwork beams with three different magnitudes of prestressing force are given. The influence of shear span to effective depth ratio and magnitude of prestressing force on the flexural resistance is examined. One beam failed in shear. The behaviour at transfer, under service and at ultimate loads is assessed and comparisons are made with the recommendations given in the Draft British Standard BS 5628, Part 2.
