Abstract
This work reports the results of an experimental characterization study of concrete masonry products, with specimens obtained under real production conditions. The experiments were performed with three different concrete mixes incorporating Municipal Solid Waste Bottom Ash – MSWBA – produced by LIPOR – Intermunicipal Waste Treatment Service in the Porto Region – with and without lightweight expanded clay aggregate. Properties studied included the dry density, compressive and flexural strengths, splitting tension, water absorptions by immersion and capillarity, and lixiviation tests for evaluation the contaminant potential. The results obtained so far indicate that the residues may be suitable for use in concrete masonry products.
