Abstract

Laterally loaded masonry wall panels are widely used in modern constructions due to many advantages they offer. In recent years, research on laterally loaded masonry panels, particularly in the numerical analysis area, has progressed extensively. A large body of experimental data and related empirical and numerical research in this area exist. The aim of this review is to summariseresults from experimental tests and numerical research in a single document. Due to the large body of information in the literature on masonry panels subjected to lateral loads, this paper deals only with experimental and empirical research into laterally loaded walls. The review on numerical techniques will follow later. The paper reviews the experimental and empirical research on masonry wall panels from the beginning until recent days. It is hoped that this paper will give a comprehensive, up?to?date and accurate account of the research on laterally loaded masonry wall panels. Any omission or oversight is not intentional.
