Abstract
The investigation deals with the structural behaviour of ashlar-like masonry and the determination of its bearing capacity. The use of the elastic characteristics in an elastic analysis leads to transverse tensile stresses that are considerably lower than the tensite strength of the stone. This demonstrates the limitations of this stress-deformation model. In order to clarify the real behaviour of the combination of stone and mortar, an investigation into the structural and fracture behaviour of the masonry would also be necessary.
