Abstract
Either carbon or Aramid fibre rods or steel bars can be used to reinforce prefabricated single leaf masonry. Steel reinforcement will corrode hence the force transfer of carbon fibre rods to masonry has also been investigated. Numerical simulations concerned the effect of anchor positioning and the distance between prestressing elements on the stress distribution. Other simulations and experiments showed that the grout around the reinforcement (both steel bars and carbon fibre rods) only cracked in the immediate vicinity. In the experiments a linear relationship was found between the length of embedment and the force needed to pull out the bars.
