Abstract

For functional and aesthetic reasons masonry, in most applications, is plastered either on one or both sides. A review of the literature indicates that no attempt has been made so far to evaluate the contribution of plastering to the structural performance of concrete block masonry and codes do not include the influence or otherwise of plastering in the design provisions. The flexural bond strength of 30 bed joints of unplastered and 44 bed joints of plastered concrete block masonry prisms with different mortar combinations has been tested. The results are discussed and a comparison with code provisions made.
