Abstract
Due to the lack of data to support characteristic bond strengths between steel and mortar and between steel and concrete infill a testing programme was commissioned to generate data which would be relevant to current UK practice and would be useful in relation to comment on ENV 1996-1. The test programme used a range of sizes of rebars in either plain, deformed, epoxy coated or low carbon steel. These were tested in concrete or mortar infill either confined within masonry units or not. A variety of concrete and mortar mixes were used including designations (i) and (ii) mortars, C30 concrete, C30 concrete with expanding agents or plasticizers and C45 concrete.
