Two series of brickwork beams were tested. Each series consisted of four beams with varying degrees of prestress and at least one conventionally reinforced beam having the same flexural capacity. A different brick bonding arrangement was used for each series. The behaviour of the beams is compared and the advantages to be gained bv prestressing are examined. The test performance of the beams is assessed with regard to serviceability and ultimate capacity, the strength in shear being of particular interest.
