Abstract
Experiences from the past earthquakes show that masonry infilled steel frames are highly vulnerable to earthquake and investigations about the behavior of these buildings during an earthquake are of great importance. In this paper, seismic behavior of a one-storey masonry infilled steel frame is investigated using 3D finite element models. The models are verified using experimental test results. Having verified finite element models, in-plane earthquake loading is applied and the failure modes and the condition of cracks are investigated. Out-of-plane earthquake loading is then applied to the models and again, the failure modes and the condition of cracks are studied. Finally, in-plane and outof-plane components of a selected earthquake acceleration record are applied to the models and dynamic analysis is carried out. The results of the analysis can be useful for seismic retrofitting of this type of structures for future earthquakes.
