Abstract
Arcades are often lightly loaded slender-structures used as architectural features. The stability of the end arch is considered in relation to existing design guidance. The results from four full scale single leaf semi-circular arches tested to destruction under uniformly distributed vertical loads are reported. Methods of improving the stability of the end column are suggested.
