Abstract
The results of six full scale walls tested in the laboratory are reported. The parameters under investigation were brick strength, percentage of reinforcement and wall thickness. The pocket spacing, wall height and width were kept constant at 1 m, 3 m and 2 m respectively. It is concluded that the overall performance of this construction is satisfactory when compared with the design recommendations in the draft BS 5628:Part 2;’but design for shear appears to be unduly conservative.
