Abstract
Brickwork is considered to be uneconomic because of the cost of the hand operations associated with it. The KNB decided to ignore new mechanised methods of erection and concentrate research on ways of making the mason’s task easier and more efficient. New brick packs and scaffolding were developed which ensured that all the materials were to hand and the bricklayer did not have to bend to do his work. The project has been developed in conjunction with building contractors and unions so that the result is a practical solution to real problems on site.
