The clay blocks of sophisticated large perforated cross sections filled by insulation have been developed during recent years. Due to different configurations of the masonry unit, specimens of masonry made from the blocks and with thin layer mortar have been tested. This programme of work included testing, evaluation of experimental data and mathematical modelling of the material. Masonry characteristics such as compressive strength, bending tensile strength and initial shear strength were found but in addition, evaluation and modelling of this type of masonry in the combined stages of loading and deformation was undertaken.
