Abstract
This Partners in Technology (PiT) project generated data to support the UK National Application Document (NAD) for the voluntary Eurocode for masonry design – ENV1996.1.1. The data was determined by constructing 118 brickwork wallettes and testing them for compressive strength. The bricks and mortars were also tested for compressive strength. The NAD gives formulae to calculate the strength of calcium silicate masonry. The results of these tests show that the theoretical strengths for half brick thick walls are safe and that the theoretical strengths for single brick thick walls could be safely raised to that of half brick thick walls.
