Constructional measures for increasing the bending stability of masonry walls are presented. Existing masonry walls can be strengthened by reinforced or steel fibre reinforced supplementary coatings of PCC shotcrete mortar or dowelled steel bands. With supplementary coatings of PCC shotcrete mortar an increase in the load-bearing capacity of between 300% and 900% has been shown experimentally. Dowelled steel bands are able to increase the load-bearing capacity up to 230%. The computational models are able to reproduce the load-bearing and deformation behaviour of strengthened masonry walls with a sufficient degree of accuracy. The differences between test and computational values range between 5% and 10%.
