Abstract
A test method has been proposed that will allow the bond shear strength T0 and the coefficient of friction u of masonry joints to be measured using relatively simple apparatus. A programme is being conducted to assess the performance of this test method when used with a wide range of bricks and blocks. Results on certain brick types led to a modified method results from which are presented in this paper. For comparison purposes shear tests were also undertaken on triplets subjected to precompression. The results indicate that the modified simple test method is capable of producing values for t0 and u similar to those given by triplet tests with precompression.
