Forum Operation & General Rules

Download PDF Download PDF version of this page

The forum is available to IMS members to enable them to raise and discuss a wide range of masonry topics.
IMS hopes that the forum will also encourage collaborative projects and partnerships.

By posting on the forum, you are agreeing to abide by these rules. They must equally be applied when posting links (URLs), recommendations or references to any 3rd party websites, publications, events or broadcasts.

Any breach of these rules may result in a warning being issued and, in extreme instances, the permanent termination of your membership.

A policy of "self-regulation" is in place and, as the owners of the forum, IMS members are ultimately the judge of what is or is not acceptable.

Non-members are welcome to view the postings in the forum but are unable to make postings themselves.

General Rules

The forum is not moderated, which means that it is vital that members ensure that a professional standard is maintained at all times, particularly as non-members are allowed to view the posts.

•No flaming*, spamming*, insulting, degrading comments or personal attacks. This applies to comments about members of this forum AND their associates, friends, relatives and past & present partners.

•No racial, sexual/gender or ethnic slurs will be tolerated.

•No inappropriate or offensive language will be tolerated

•No illegal, defamatory or libellous material to be posted. Please do not post photo manipulations unless they are labelled as such.

•No pornography. Contributions will be judged as pornographic if they include any of the following elements: Sexually explicit pictures or video, Lurid or sensational writing whose express and primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal (example: Porn without Plot stories).

•No warez*. The downloading of P-2-P products, whether they are pirate, illegal, frees-share or not, is not allowed under any circumstances.

•Use common sense, if you are genuinely not sure you should be doing something, don't do it!.

•Please use common English and not abbreviations or text speak. You will not get banned for poor spelling, but everyone should be able to read easily what you have written.

•Avoid gossip - Anything posted in this forum should be backed up with a source. But if a comment or opinion is based on anecdotal or unsubstantiated evidence it must be clear to everyone that this is the case and is unreliable evidence. Note: 'A colleague says' is not an acceptable source, it is hearsay.

•Stay on topic and make sure your comments, posts etc are in the correct thread and that subject threads are not duplicated.

•Opinions expressed are personal to the individual who posted them. They do not necessarily reflect the views of the IMS or its members.

The IMS is bound by its agreement with the hosting provider for the IMS website. Members should therefore note that failure to observe these rules could lead to closure of the forum by the hosting provider and an extreme breach could possibly result in closure of the entire website.

Members must keep their login details secret as they run the risk of being banned even if an infringement was due to another person accessing the forum using their identity.

*Glossary
Warez is a term used to denote cracked or pirate versions of commercial software.

Flaming denotes posts intended to insult and provoke generally, or with hostility to a particular person or persons.

Spamming is a term for unsolicited postings, promotions or band-width intensive campaigns.
