Guide to the Structural Eurocodes for Students of Structural Design

A new guide has been launched by BSI to introduce all students of civil engineering, structural engineering and structural design to the Structural Eurocodes.

This publication will aid undergraduates in their understanding of the principles of the ten Eurocodes.

The guide provides common design principles and rules for everyday use for the design of structures and component products, and a common series of methods for calculating the structural strength of elements used in construction.

This new guide is clearly laid out in ten chapters; each one includes extracts from the published Eurocodes (or the most recent available draft) with an explanatory commentary. Each chapter has been written by an expert in the field and overseen by Kingston University.

Primarily written for UK graduates and students in English-speaking universities worldwide, the guide would also be a valuable development tool and resource for engineers and technicians.

The main parts are:
• basis of structural design
• actions on structures
• design of concrete structures
• design of steel structures
• design of composite steel and concrete structures
• design of timber structures
• design of masonry structures
• geotechnical design
• design of structures for earthquake resistance
• design of aluminium structures
