Fisher’s Tests on Chasing Revisited “The Effect of Chasing on the Compressive Strength of Brickwork, (3.IBMAC, Essen 1973)”

Author

S. SAHLIN

Professor emeritus, KTH, Sweden

Abstract

There appears to be little data published on the effect of chasing on the compressive strength of brickwork with only that according to FISHER [1] and others [2-3]. In the writers’ opinion this statement still holds. Earlier analyses seem to find that scatter prevents a trend to be seen.

Chases of only a few per cent of a test specimen’s horizontal cross section area caused up to 20 per cent loss of load carrying capacity [1].

Additional analysis of [1] shows that some trends may be found in the data. These trends are explained and discussed in the light of theories.
