Abstract
There appears to be little data published on the effect of chasing on the compressive strength of brickwork with only that according to FISHER [1] and others [2-3]. In the writers’ opinion this statement still holds. Earlier analyses seem to find that scatter prevents a trend to be seen.
Chases of only a few per cent of a test specimen’s horizontal cross section area caused up to 20 per cent loss of load carrying capacity [1].
Additional analysis of [1] shows that some trends may be found in the data. These trends are explained and discussed in the light of theories.
