Abstract

The strength characteristics of cement stabilised compressed earth blocks produced by manually operated machines depend on the cement content, the compaction ratio and the soil characteristics. The compressive strength characteristics of cement stabilised soil blocks manufactured with a manual press were determined experimentally by varying the cement percentage and the soil characteristics. The wall strengths were also determined. The guidelines to be followed in using cement stabilised soil blocks as a load-bearing material were presented. It is shown that this material could be safely used when designed in accordance with BS 5628: Part 1: 1992 using limit state principles.
