Membership benefits

Personal and Qualified membership

Personal membership is open to all those with an interest in masonry science and practice. Corporate membership is open to all appropriate corporations, institutions, companies and professional practices. There are no entry requirements for personal membership, except a minimum age of eighteen.

Masonry International

Personal members receive the Society's magazine, Masonry International, free of charge. Corporate members receive 2 copies. This is normally published 3 times a year.

Technical meetings

The Society normally holds two technical meetings a year at which original papers are presented and discussed. Some of these meetings are major conferences including the quadrennial International Masonry Conference.

Preferential rates

Members may purchase other publications including the International Conference Proceedings and attend meetings and Conferences at preferential members' rates.

Qualified membership

The Society By-Laws enable suitably qualified Associates (peronal members) to become Members or Fellows of the Society, entitling them to use the designatory letters MIMS or FIMS.

The designations of Member and Fellow are characterised by an educational requirement and/or experience, and a commitment to Continuing Professional Development. Advancement to Member or Fellow for new applicants already possessing the relevant qualifications or experience is by application. Those Members subsequently meeting the additional requirements may apply to transfer to Fellowship.

Council has powers to elect persons of distinction to be Honorary Fellows, providing there are no more than five at any one time.

Applications should be supported by three Sponsors, of which at least one must be a Fellow or Officer of the Society. The membership designation is awarded by the Qualifications Panel on the basis of the evidence of qualifications and experience submitted and the recommendations of the Sponsors.

The application form for Qualified Membership can be downloaded from this web site. The By-Laws are also available online. If you would prefer hard copy versions of the application forms or By-Laws, please contact the Secretary Kenneth Fisher, who will be pleased to advise on any matters.
