EC6 Presentation draws over-capacity audience

An evening presentation on Eurocode 6 and its implementation was given by Peter Watt of Charlwood Partnership on 23 January to the Midlands Counties Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers at Birmingham. The presentation was by invitation and formed the evening’s key event of the Bob Fisher Memorial Lecture which the Branch gives annually.

A capacity audience with standing room only of over 90 delegates attended most of who were practising structural engineers within the Midlands Counties Branch catchments area.

The delegates showed a keen interest in Eurocode 6 and its various constituent parts and were aware of the short timescale to its full use as a working code of practice in the UK.

The presentation covered the scope of the Eurocode, design aspects, ramifications of the UK National Annex which is nearing publication and principal differences of the Eurocode with BS5628 which it will ultimately replace.

A lively questions session followed the presentation with particular interest in materials and design methodologies.
