CEN/TC 125 met on 9th/10th April 2008 in Copenhagen to consider the outcome of the 5 year review of the product specifications, to update the structure of the TC and to agree preliminary work items enabling small but urgent changes.
In addition to opening the way for delivering CE marking information via the Internet, members were keen to see the clauses on thermal properties updated to align them with the proposed amendments to EN1745.
Under CEN rules these changes will trigger a revision of all 11no. product specifications but noting that the standards are still new to many users and taking into account that significant changes might result from the work of CEN/TC350 (Sustainability of construction works), the work CEN/TC351 (Assessment of release of dangerous substances) and the revision of the Construction Products Directive, members agreed to limit the changes. The committee intends to meet again next year in Berlin to receive the texts of proposed changes and approve them to go forward for voting via the UAP procedure. Consequently, the Working Groups have until the end of January 2009 to draft text and seek a broad consensus for proposed changes.
An exception is likely to be the more extensive changes to EN845-1 and EN 845-2 in order to allow greater use of calculation methods. This work will almost certainly need to go to CEN Enquiry before final text is approved to go forward for voting.
