REPORT OF COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR 2003

1. The Society

The financial position of the Society remains strong. Membership numbers benefited from delegates obtaining membership through attendance at 6 IMC, with these showing an encouraging rate of subscription renewals.

Council has addressed two major items during the year. Proposals were discussed concerning the feasibility of setting up and maintaining on the website a ‘One-Stop-Shop for Masonry Research’, based on the Partners in Innovation research project carried out at Kingston University. It is anticipated this work will move forward during the coming months, to the benefit of the masonry industry.

A framework paper was also discussed by Council to provide a Society strategy, and this will be further developed.

2. Publications – Masonry International

The contents of Volume 16, Numbers 1 and 2 were listed in the last Annual Report. The contents of Volume16, Number 3 are:

REPORT OF THE TREASURER.

Total income in 2003 was £32,392 lower than in 2002, the main reason for which is that the income in 2002 included income from 6IMC. The conference also had an effect on expenditure during 2002 and total expenditure for 2003 was £50,195 lower than the total expenditure for 2003.

The net result of the decreases in both Income and Expenditure in 2003 is a Net Income of £8,837 compared to £3,172 in 2002. The total of the Society’s Net Assets has increased from £85,105 in 2002 to £93,942 at the end of 2003. Cash balances have increased by £2,976 to £102,337.
