AGM and Annual Luncheon 2006

Download PDF Download PDF version of this page

The 2006 AGM was again held at the RAF Club, Piccadilly, London on 4th July.

President Professor Geoff Edgell welcomed members to the meeting. The Report of Council was received by the meeting and the Statement of Accounts and Balance sheet for the year ended 31st December 2005, previously circulated to members, was adopted.

In his introductory remarks, the President referred to the new style Masonry International (MI), investment in the website with journal papers readily searchable ad available, and the ability to make financial transactions on-line.

It is hoped that the Kingston University issue of MI will prove to be the first of a series of specialised issues devoted to a particular topic or organisation. Other highlights were the three successful roadshows in conjunction with RICS and the issue of a mortar publication, this latter having received generous NHBC financial support.

Mr Cliff Fudge, (H+H Celcon Ltd), succeeded Professor Edgell as President with Mr John Haynes (National House-Building Council) becoming President-Elect.

Dr Ken Fisher, Mr Philip Wood, Mr Geoff Engledow and Mr Graham Thompson, were re-elected Secretary, Treasurer, Honorary Editor and Executive Editor respectively.

Thanks were expressed to those Council members who retired at the meeting: Professor Alessandro Baratta, Dr Adrian Bell, Mr Colin Marshall, Mr Chris Mills, Mr Austin Trueman.

The following were elected to serve as ordinary members of council for three years: Dr Paul Chana, Dr Bob de Vekey, Dr John Forth, Mr Steve Knight, Mr Terry Knight and Mr Richard Shipman, with Mr Neil Tutt co-opted to fill an existing vacancy.

The minutes of the meeting together with the Annual Report will be placed on the website.

The new format for the AGM and Annual Luncheon provided a new feature, with the introduction of a 2-hour technical session, between the AGM and Luncheon. The session, entitled ‘Sustainable Masonry Construction’, was attended by some 50 members and guests. Presenters were Martin Clarke and Michael Driver (Modern Masonry Alliance), Ian Abley (architect), Dr David Hills (Ibstock Brick Ltd), Colin Marshall (Tarmac-Topblock) and Malcolm Bell (Leeds Metropolitan University). A meeting report will be included in Masonry International, with details also published on the website.

The session was followed by the Annual Luncheon, at which the guest speaker was Paul Everall CBE, formerly Head of the Buildings division in the ODPM and its predecessor departments for fourteen years. He is currently Chief Executive of LABC, the representative and marketing body for local authority building control officers.

The full minutes of the AGM appear on the Members Section of this site.
