This Conference on Historical Mortars (Characterization, Diagnosis, Conservation, Repair and Compatibility) will take place between the 24th and the 26th September 2008 at the LNEC Conference Centre, in Lisbon.

24/09/2008 ~ One Day Conference "Introducing BS ISO 15686-5 Life Cycle Costing"

02/10/2008 ~ Eurocode 6 course

Thomas Telford Training has run its Design of Structural Masonry to Eurocode 6 courses since June 2007. These one day courses are designed for civil and structural engineers who wish to design masonry to EN1996-1-1 and will provide a clear and considered introduction to the design of masonry using Eurocode 6 focussing on the key elements of the new design code. An overview of the Eurocode suite will also be given placing masonry design in the context of the other design Eurocodes and the supporting Standards. Tutorials covering the design of unreinforced brick and block masonry will form an important part of the course.

05/11/2008 ~ 8th International Seminar on Structural Masonry (issm08)

The 8th International Seminar on Structural Masonry (issm08) will be held at the Istanbul Technical University on 5-7th Novemebr 2008

28/11/2008 ~ Comparing design outcomes from EC6 with outcomes from BS 5628

COMING SOON. This IMS event will be held in London at the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG). It is being co-sponsored by CLG and the Modern Masonry Alliance.

29/03/2009 ~ The University Professors' Masonry Workshop

The 2009 UPMW has been scheduled for March 29-31 at The University of Texas at Austin. A schedule of events and registration form will be posted in late 2008.

The University Professors’ Masonry Workshop is the most important event of the year for architectural and engineering educators who teach masonry courses or hope to incorporate masonry courses or portions of courses into their curriculum.

STAMFORD BROOK ~ Evaluating the Impact of an Enhanced Energy Performance Standard on Load-bearing Masonry Domestic Construction

This PII project is evaluating the implementation of an advanced energy standard on a large scale housing development. It is being undertaken by the Centre for the Built Environment at Leeds Metropolitan University. For details visit the CEBE projects website or see page 9 of NHBC Standards Extra issue 41.

EC6 IT design program from the Danish Technological Institute

DTI is offering an on-line calculation and design program consistent with EC6. The program is in English and can be used without charge for 3 weeks.
