The society was founded in 1986 as the British Masonry Society (BMS) and has since gained a considerable international reputation. It has members from more than thirty countries throughout the world and from all professions and activities associated with masonry construction. On the 1st of January 2008 the BMS became known as the International Masonry Society.

Society Objectives

The objectives of the Society are to promote discussion and advancement of the science and practice of masonry as allied to its constituent materials and to all aspects of the design and use of masonry and the construction process. The Society provides a forum for learned discussion and disseminates research information. It additionally aims to provide a means of contact for all those involved in masonry science, design and industry, generating published papers having an international circulation.

Masonry International

To further its objectives, the Society publishes a journal, Masonry International, normally three times a year. Each issue contains papers describing original experimental and analytical research, together with reviews and practical papers including case studies.

Meetings and Conferences

Regular technical meetings provide the main forums for the presentation and discussion of original work. Major international conferences are also hosted, including the prestigious quadrennial International Masonry Conferences. Papers given at major conferences are published as Proceedings and are available to all delegates and Society members.

Membership

The Society is formed from both personal and corporate members. Personal membership is open to construction professionals, manufacturers, academics and researchers involved in all areas of related activity. Corporate membership is open to partnerships and companies engaged in any activities directly related to masonry and masonry construction.

Graduates and students of the construction industry professions and other related activities are welcomed into membership.

The activities of the Society are managed by a Council formed of members of the Society and elected at an Annual General Meeting
